Most house share rotas die within a month. These five things keep one going.
- Split it by rooms, not by jobs. “You have the kitchen this week” is easier to keep track of than a list of 30 tasks.
- Move everyone on every week. Nobody gets stuck with the bathroom, and everyone sees how much each room takes.
- Agree what “clean” means. A short job list for each room stops the “but I did clean it” argument.
- Set one deadline. Sunday night works for most houses. Check the rooms then, not all week.
- Keep the daily jobs separate. Bins, dishes and the recycling happen every day. A points system works better for those than a rota.
